Did You Know?
The charming illustration of the Wesley United Methodist Church – now home to the Malden Bridge Community Center – has a story as rich as the building itself.
This beloved drawing was made possible through the generosity of Elizabeth Carpenter, a dedicated supporter of the church and the community. The artist, A. N. Wyeth – nephew of renowned American painter Andrew Wyeth – once lived as a tenant on Mrs. Carpenter’s property in Rider’s Mills.
When the women of Wesley United Methodist Church set out to publish their community three cookbooks, Liz played a key role in commissioning Wyeth in 1981 to create the illustration for the cover. The result was more than just artwork – it became a lasting symbol of the church’s identity.
For many years, this distinctive image appeared on weekly bulletins and other materials, quietly weaving itself into the fabric of Malden Bridge’s history.
Today, that same spirit of creativity, generosity and community continues at the Malden Bridge Community Center.
